Training for Labor
The schooling average of the economically active population in the State is 9.1 years, and only a 3.5% of illiteracy rate, placing Baja California in the third lowest rate among the thirty-two entities in the country and way under the national average of 9.6 percent. In the same manner, 91.60% of the population from six to fourteen years of age goes to school, which means that most of the young population has access to education. The 61.95% of the population over fifteen years of age goes to high school. Public School is available in all levels, from kindergarten to university.
After elementary education, training options are offered to those who wish to work in different occupations with the help of a sophisticated net of specialized schools according to the area of knowledge preferred. This way, young people are trained from the start so that they can perform specialized duties.

Universities and Degrees
At this educational level 103 professional degrees are offered.
The State has many prestigious and renowned institutions in the academic environment, which prepare professionals for an executive or managerial level as well as researchers and technicians.
In the last years, educational institutions have diversified their programs towards careers linked with external commerce, custom services and international businesses due to the growth expectations that globalization of the economy is causing.
These universities have 19 R&D centers for basic and applied investigation in advanced projects of biotechnology, physics, oceanography, digital geothermal technology, astronomy, among others.

Postgraduate Education
At this educational level supply is steadily growing. Baja California has developed a need to be self-sufficient in matters of technological and scientific innovation and to be less dependent on foreign countries. Current businesses demand new production processes as well as technology for the incubation of companies.
The number of graduate degrees offered, including PhD. programs is 121. There are 53 graduate schools in the State.
